So we all know that winter is just around the corner, and that means snow and ice are on the rise. Now none of us want to keep our horses locked up all winter but putting them out on the ice and snow can be scary. How many of us have heard horror stories of horses slipping on ice, cracking a shoulder bone, and being permanently injured? Probably too many !
I know one thing that keeps my mind at ease is keeping studs on my horses shoes. By keeping studs on his shoes it gives me some peace of mind that when he's unattended and acting like a fool he will have a better chance of not slipping and hurting himself.
Another thing that I always do in the winter is put snow pads in his shoes. You know when you bring your horse in from the pasture and they have an inch of snow built up in their shoes? Well none of us like having to pick all of that out right? Its a pain and very time consuming but we all know it is necessary to get that snow out of their.
By keeping the snow pads on the shoes it keeps the snow out and saves us so much time during turning in.
I recommend this more then anything !!
I hope my advice on studs and snow pads helped !!
Have a safe and snowy winter everyone !!
